Eligible applicants are limited to the Texas Animal Health Commission, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, and Texas A&M AgriLife Research. Individual farmers and ranchers are not eligible to apply.

WSDA grant funding a community-based, nonlethal approach to reducing livestock depredations by wolves in Okanogan, Ferry, Stevens, and Pend Oreille counties. The current 2025-2027 round made $840,000 available (RFP released May 22, 2025; proposals due June 6, 2025; project period July 1, 2025-June 30, 2027). Per RCW 16.76.020, funds are distributed only to nonprofit community-based collaborative organizations, which deploy nonlethal deterrence resources benefiting area livestock producers. Biennial program tied to the state budget; awarded in prior biennia (2017, 2019, 2021).



Nonprofit community-based collaborative organizations with advisory boards that include relevant agencies (e.g., US Forest Service, WA Dept of Fish & Wildlife). Serves livestock producers in Okanogan, Ferry, Stevens, and Pend Oreille counties; individual ranchers do not apply directly.

No per-award ceiling or floor and no matching requirement are published. The RFP states only the size of the pool: "The Washington State Legislature has appropriated $912,000 for the 2025-2027 biennium. After the administrative costs, $840,000 is available to award. Additional competitive solicitations may be conducted." The program page repeats that "$840,000 is available to award for this round of applications." How that is split among grantees is left to the review process, so applicants should size their own budget request.

The binding cost condition is on overhead: "Indirect costs are not allowed. Indirect costs are defined as expenses that are incurred for common objectives and cannot be specifically identified with a particular project or activity. These typically include administrative expenses such as rent, utilities, general office supplies, and salaries of administrative staff." Administrative or clerical work can be charged directly only if it is "integral to the project," tied to identifiable individuals, "explicitly included in the budget or receive prior written approval from WSDA," and "not also recovered as indirect costs elsewhere."

Term: the 2025-2027 award runs a two-year project period, "July 1, 2025 - June 30, 2027." The program is biennial, tied to the state budget.

What the money may buy is narrowly bounded: "Funds must be used exclusively for the deployment of nonlethal deterrence resources, including human presence and locally owned and deliberately located equipment and tools, as outlined in RCW 16.76.020," and only "in counties east of the Cascade crest that share a border with Canada" (Okanogan, Ferry, Stevens, Pend Oreille). Ongoing conditions attach to the award: "Range riders or herd monitors must visit targeted areas with cattle daily or nearly daily," "all range riders must document activities with GPS tracking logs and submit reports to WDFW on a monthly basis," and coordination with other grantees is required.

Funds come from "the Northeast Washington Wolf-Livestock Management Account (RCW 16.76.030), a nonappropriated account managed by the state treasurer," and WSDA "will maintain a public list of grants awarded under this section, including the amount, recipient, and purpose, as required by statute." Note that individual ranchers do not receive these funds directly — only nonprofit community-based collaborative organizations may apply.

The Utah Grazing&#x2004;Improvement Program seeks to improve the productivity, health, and sustainability of Utah rangelands and watersheds. It’s believed that well planned and managed livestock grazing is the most important landscape-scale tool for maintaining healthy rangelands, watersheds, and wildlife habitats. Healthy rangelands contribute to a healthy livestock industry and productive rural economies. The goals are to strengthen Utah’s livestock industry, improve rural economies, and to enhance the environment. The program includes three grants:

**Utah Grazing Improvement Program Grant**

- Applications are open annually through January 1. 

- The Utah Grazing Improvement Program (GIP) provides cost-share grants to rangers for rangeland improvements. Eligible projects include any restoration work that will improve rangeland health, productivity and management. In order for proposals to be competitive, a recommended maximum request is $100,000. 

- Project examples: elimination of invasive species, reseeding, livestock water development and improvements, fencing, grazing management planning, and any other projects that improve watershed and rangeland health and productivity. 


**UGIP Predatory Animal Control Grant**

- 2022 Application window open through June 17, 2022. 

- This grant is open to eligible livestock producers who have suffered predation losses and provides reimbursement for up to 50% of the cost of the contracted amount for practices used to stop or reduce predation. A total of $150,000 is available.


**UGIP Small Livestock Producers Grant**

- 2022 Application window open through June 17, 2022

- This grant is open to small livestock producers (50 animal units or less) for projects that will improve grazing management on federal, state, or private land. A total of $100,000 is available with an award maximum of up to $10,000.

Individual livestock producers apply — this is a producer cost-share program, not a partner-only fund. The umbrella test, verbatim: "Grants are available to livestock producers operating in the State that graze cattle, sheep, goats, and horses."

So three things must be true before anything else: you graze livestock (cattle, sheep, goats or horses), you operate in Utah, and your project improves rangeland — "project examples include water developments, fencing, and vegetation treatments."

The three tracks then have their own published eligibility:

1. Utah Grazing Improvement Program Grant — "Eligibility: livestock operations." Maximum request $200,000. Deadline December 31. No herd-size floor or ceiling is published for this track.

1. Small Livestock Operation Grant — the only track with a hard size test, and it cuts both ways: "Eligibility: 20 to 75 animal units (minimum: 20 cows, 100 sheep, 130 goats or equivalent animal units)." Below 20 animal units you are too small; above 75 you are too large for this track (use track 1 instead). You "must be producing food and fiber for sale" — so hobby and non-commercial operations do not qualify. Excluded uses: "Not for purchasing/leasing land or livestock." Maximum request $10,000. Deadline December 31.

1. Predatory Animal Control Grant — "Eligibility: livestock producers who have suffered predation losses." A documented loss is the gate. Maximum request $150,000. Deadline August 31, and the page currently marks this track closed.

The program page reads "Now Accepting Applications." Statutory basis: the 2006 Rangeland Improvement Act (HB145) established GIP "to provide cost-share grants for projects that improve rangeland management and sustainability."

Not published anywhere on the page: the cost-share percentage or producer match you must bring, any acreage minimum, any revenue test, any land-tenure requirement (the page does not state whether the project must be on private, state or federal allotment), and any audience restriction such as beginning or veteran producer.

How to apply. The program page names a separate application for each track — "Grazing Improvement Program Grant Application," "Small Livestock Operation Grant Application" and "Predatory Animal Control Grant Application" — but the underlying application URLs are not exposed in the page's HTML, so there is no confirmed self-serve link. UDAF does not publish an instruction to apply through a coordinator; the regional coordinators are listed on the page as contacts, and calling yours is the practical way to get the form and the project requirements. Wolf-Livestock Conflict Prevention Grants were first funded by the Minnesota Legislature in 2017. These grants were available to Minnesota livestock producers and $240,000 was granted by the Department to livestock producers for&#x2004;costs of approved practices to prevent wolf-livestock conflicts between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2019.


New this year, grants must be matched 1:1 by producers. For example, a $10,000 project would consist of $5,000 in grant funds and $5,000 funded by the producer. Documentation must be provided to the Department for the entire amount spent on the project. For this example, that would be $10,000. The Department has received a grant from the US Fish and Wildlife Service to continue making grants to livestock producers for measures that will reduce wolf-livestock conflicts. A total of $60,000 is available through August 31, 2022. We expect 10 to 20 grants will be awarded, but the final number depends on the size of award. 


Grant applications will be scored competitively using an evaluation profile and then ranked based on total score. Please pay special attention to the evaluation profile when answering the questions on the application. A review committee comprised of representatives from Minnesota Departments of Agriculture and Natural Resources, U.S. Department of Agriculture (MDA, DNR, USDA) and producer organizations will evaluate applications.

Who is eligible:

Livestock producers within Minnesota’s wolf range or on property determined by the commissioner to be affected by wolf-livestock conflicts. Grant recipients will continue to be eligible for depredation payments under Minnesota Statute 3.737 and Minnesota Rules Chapter 1515.

Eligible livestock species:

Any animal produced for profit and has been documented to have been killed by wolves in Minnesota in the past is eligible. This includes but is not exclusive to the following animals which the MDA has paid depredation claims for in the past: bison, cattle, chicken, deer, donkey, duck, geese, goat, horse, llama, mule, sheep, swine and turkey.

Eligible grant expenses:

Grants are available to reimburse costs associated with the following practices: the purchase of guard animals, veterinary costs for guard animals, the installation of wolf-barriers which may include pens, fladry and fencing, the installation of wolf-deterring lights and alarms, calving or lambing shelters, or other measures suggested by the applicant and considered by the review panel likely to reduce wolf-livestock conflicts.

Ineligible expenses:

Any measures that are not implemented in a good-faith effort to reduce wolf-livestock conflicts are ineligible. Only measures approved by the MDA will be considered eligible for reimbursement. All Terrain Vehicles (ATV’s) or other vehicles are considered to be ineligible expenses. Salary expenses not related to the construction of barriers, shelters, lights or alarms are also considered ineligible expenses.

Grant recipients must make a good-faith effort to avoid wolf-livestock conflicts, make a good-faith effort to care for guard animals paid for with grant funds, retain proper documentation of expenses, report within 30 days of project end to the on the effectiveness of the nonlethal methods employed and allow follow-up evaluation and monitoring by the commissioner. The terms of the project will be defined in a grant agreement between the grantee and the MDA.
