Mississippi Cogongrass Control Program

MFC provides approved landowners a free initial herbicide treatment of cogongrass on pastures, woodlands or other affected property, using state-hired contractors, to start long-term control of this invasive grass. Livestock must be removed or held from slaughter and hay not cut for 30 days after treatment. Landowners in the six coastal counties apply through MFC's RESTORE grant instead.

• Mississippi landowners with cogongrass on their property (pastures, yards, or woodlands)

• Properties in Pearl River, Stone, George, Jackson, Harrison or Hancock Counties apply through the RESTORE Grant Application; all others use the Cogongrass Control Program application

• An MFC forester determines whether the land qualifies; limits based on funding, location and acreage/cost

• Landowner grants access, marks boundaries and follows livestock/hay restrictions (30 days) per the Terms and Conditions

MFC provides labor, herbicide and equipment at its own expense; no warranty of results; initial treatment only — landowner continues long-term control.

Published amounts: Approved applicants of the program may receive an initial herbicide treatment for the affected areas of their property at no charge. This work is done using contractors vetted and hired by the State of Mississippi.
