South Dakota Elk Damage Assistance

GFP cost-shares up to $15,000 for stackyards (or provides portable panels) to protect stored feed from elk, and supplies up to $15,000 of fencing materials and protective cable to reduce fence damage. It also offers up to $8,000 for growing-season food plots where elk feed on alfalfa or crops, and up to $4,000 for hay land contracts. Hazing, temporary fencing, baiting and depredation hunts are also available.

• Landowners and producers experiencing elk damage; hay land contracts are 'for grasslands that are annually hayed by landowners, not grazed by livestock and have elk feeding upon these areas.'
