This eight-state project will amplify production of climate-smart beef by expanding market drivers, grassroots support networks, and early adopter mentors and providing technical assistance for the adoption of climate-smart grazing practices to substantially reduce agricultural greenhouse gas emissions and increase carbon sequestration. The project plans 90 percent of participants will be small-scale producers.

The American Farmland Trust (AFT) Brighter Future Fund’s** Emergency Resilience Grant **was formed through generous support from&#x2004;donors and members seeking to offset financial disruptions farmers and ranchers are experiencing due to natural disasters (such as flooding, wildfires, or avian flu), the loss or delay of funding due to the government funding freeze, or a loss of markets. 

Funding will be prioritized for small to mid-size farms that have previously faced challenges accessing traditional funding opportunities, enhancing financial resilience, supporting business technical assistance, investing in business building, and/or fostering soil health and environmentally beneficial agricultural practices.

Funding will be prioritized for small to mid-size farms that have previously faced challenges accessing traditional funding opportunities, enhancing financial resilience, supporting business technical assistance, investing in business building, and/or fostering soil health and environmentally beneficial agricultural practices.

- Applicants must be based in the US (any of the 50 states or 5 territories).
- Grants will only be awarded to applicants who have been caused financial hardship as a direct result of disruptive events in recent months, including but not limited to natural disasters (flooding, wildfires, or avian flu), the loss or delay in funding due to the government funding freeze, or a loss of markets. 
- Applicants will be required to provide proof of such financial distress or loss due to a disruptive event listed above.
- Applicants must also include documentation of cost estimates, as well as a proposed budget and timeline.
- A project may involve one or more individual farmers/ranchers or farm/ranch families but only one grant can be awarded per farm/farm family or group.
- Those who were awarded a grant from AFT’s Brighter Future Fund in 2025 (including Regenerate VA Healthy Soils, Farm Vitality, or New England Regenerative Livestock Farming grants) are not eligible to apply to this additional funding opportunity.
- Applicants who applied but were not selected for funding during previous AFT grant cycles are encouraged to apply. Previous recipients of other AFT grants received in 2024 or earlier may apply; however, since funding is limited, AFT may prioritize those who have not received prior awards. 
- Eligible farms or ranches must be for-profit and be able to provide proof of income (or similar, if the operation engages in barter, exchange, or community supply). Operations must be producing food or agricultural products for their community for sale, or barter or exchange. This grant does not intend to support operations that produce agricultural products mainly for personal, household, or family use.
- Nonprofit organizations are encouraged to take advantage of alternate resources designed specifically for nonprofits.

Our New England Farmer Microgrants Program will now be&#x2004;administered under AFT’s larger grant–making umbrella, the Brighter Future Fund (“BFF”). While our name is changing, our funding opportunities for New England farmers will look similar to past years.


These $5,000 grants can fund projects related to:

1.  Improving farm viability,

2. Accessing, transferring, or permanently protecting farmland 

3. Adopting regenerative farming practices and increasing resilience to climate change. 


Due to funding priorities, AFT expects to be able to award extra funding in New England through this national grant round for farmland access/acquisition, succession, and transfer projects.

- A project may involve one or more of the following: an individual farmer, a farm family, a group of farmers with a cooperative business, or a non-profit entity.
- AFT defines “land access” as the pursuit of finding or getting onto farmland to begin or continue a farming operation, and “farm transfer” as the steps involved in transferring a farm business and/or farmland from one entity to another.

Grants are reimbursement-based
This program issues payment to awardees as a reimbursement. If awarded, grantees will only receive payment after submitting proof of purchase/payment for services. AFT can also pay vendors directly for approved items/services on behalf of the grantee upon receipt of invoice from the vendor. 
Through AFT's partnership with Farm Credit East’s FarmStart program, NEFMP awardees who face challenges in pre-paying for grant-supported projects may be eligible to receive a low-interest advance. Reach out to AFT staff for more information. 
Grantees have one year to implement their projects from the date of award.

**The Brighter Future Fund’s New England Regenerative Livestock Farming** **Grants** (formerly the Western New England Regenerative Livestock Farming Grant) provide funds to livestock farmers in select counties in Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Connecticut for the adoption of regenerative agriculture practices. The funds are intended to support field-based conservation practice projects that improve soil health, water quality, and pollinator habitat. Applicants can request **up&#x2004;to $10,000** under this funding opportunity. This grant will only fund existing livestock operations and is not able to fund start-up livestock operations. Applicants must be raising livestock products for their community for sale or for barter/exchange.The Western New England Regenerative Livestock Farming funding opportunity provides grants to livestock producers [in select counties in CT, MA, NH, and VT](https://farmland.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/NEFMP-Priority-Regen-Ag-County-List-2023.pdf) for projects that improve soil health through the adoption of regenerative agricultural practices. 

Applicants can request up to $10,000 under this funding opportunity.
