Oregon Small Forestland Investment in Stream Habitat (SFISH) (SFISH)

Oregon Department of Forestry

Grants to small forestland owners for forest-road projects that help fish: replacing failing or substandard culverts and fords, repairing abandoned roads, and fixing perched road fill that threatens fish-bearing streams. ODF can cover up to 100% of design and construction costs. An ODF forester assesses the site, and projects are ranked for funding by a review team of ODF, ODFW and stakeholders.

Eligibility

  • Small forestland owner: owns less than 5,000 acres of forestland in Oregon and harvested no more than an average of 2 million board feet per year over the previous three years (and does not expect to exceed that for the next 10 years)

  • Project benefits fish species covered under the Private Forest Accord Aquatic Habitat Conservation Plan: culvert/ford replacement, abandoned road repair, or remediation of perched fill

  • A Road Condition Assessment (RCA) must be completed

  • Must affirm maintaining timber harvest volumes for 10 years after receiving the grant
