Nevada's Conservation Credit System lets private landowners enroll sage-grouse habitat as Credit Projects. The state quantifies the habitat as credits, and landowners sell them to developers who must offset impacts on public land. The SETT confirms eligibility at no cost; landowners sign a participant contract and management plan to keep or improve the habitat for the life of the project.
Eligibility
-
Land in Greater Sage-grouse habitat providing seasonal and daily resources
-
Landowner attests to ownership/use rights, water rights control and past land use
-
Not already under an easement with the same goals; no imminent disturbance threat
-
Sign the Participant Contract
Terms
Contract term = duration of credit project; landowner markets credits (see Transactions page).
Published amounts: Credits sold on an open market to debit proponents (mines, solar, wind on public land); price set by the parties.
Application Instructions
Complete the Credit Project Application and email sage-admin@sagebrusheco.nv.gov; SETT issues Notice of Validation; select a certified Verifier for the HQT; submit Management Plan; credits registered and sold.
Deadline text on the page: Enrollment rolling; habitat assessment (HQT) done the next spring/summer.
