AgriCapture Grassland Carbon Credits

AgriCapture develops Avoided Grassland Conversion carbon credits for landowners and ranchers who keep native grasslands out of crop production, and pays them by selling the resulting third-party-verified credits.

AgriCapture's first grassland projects were developed in partnership with the Texas Agricultural Land Trust (TALT), generating credits for three Texas Panhandle ranches covering over 6,300 acres of native grasslands.

Open to landowners and ranchers with native grasslands at risk of conversion to cropland. AgriCapture states it works with "a variety of landowners and farmers," and describes the grasslands and ranchlands track as "quantifying, conserving, and increasing soil organic carbon" to create "new revenue streams for landowners' sustainable land management."

Property eligibility is determined case by case: "AgriCapture gathers data and uses satellite imagery to assess property eligibility and quantify carbon credit potential." No minimum acreage, tenure requirement, or geographic restriction is published.

Landowner revenue comes from the sale of verified carbon credits rather than a published payment rate; AgriCapture "simplifies the carbon project process by managing registration, verification, and the sale of the credits, allowing farmers to focus on their operation."

AgriCapture's credits are issued by the Climate Action Reserve, and the company reports being "the first company in Texas history to receive carbon credits for avoided grassland conversion." Its MRV work has covered over 150,000 acres of U.S. farmers, ranchers, and landowners.

No per-acre or per-tonne payment rate, revenue-share split, contract term, or enrollment deadline is published on the program page.

AgriCapture then follows a three-step process:

1. Land Evaluation - AgriCapture gathers data and uses satellite imagery to assess property eligibility and quantify carbon credit potential.

2. Project Development - AgriCapture develops a detailed Monitoring Plan and lists the project with a carbon registry.

3. Carbon Credit Verification & Sales - "A third-party auditor verifies the integrity of the carbon credits. Once credits are verified, AgriCapture identifies a buyer and manages the transaction."
