The Innovation Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Department of Agriculture of Puerto Rico invites producers and processors of specialty crops to submit proposals to apply for grants under the Specialty Crop Block Grant program.
The products, projects and practices eligible for the grant will change from year to year with a shared goal of improving outcomes for specialty crop producers and consumers.
AMS encourages applications that benefit smaller farms and ranches, new and beginning farmers and ranchers, socially disadvantaged producers, veteran producers, and/or underserved communities. For grants intending to serve these entities, applicants should engage and involve those beneficiaries when developing projects and applications.
Enterprises
Eligibility
Farmers and processors of specialty crops are eligible to submit proposals. Specialty crops include fruit, vegetables, coffee, cocoa, ornamental plants. herbs, spices, honey and cut flowers, among other eligible products (see complete list at www.ams.usda.gov/scbgp.)
Organizations who support specialty crop farmers are also eligible to apply.
Terms
A maximum of $54,000 will be awarded under this grant.
Participants must provide a cost-share of at least 10%. At the maximum funding level of $54,000, an applicant must provide $6,000.
Application Instructions
Applications can be submitted by email to: grants@agricultura.pr.gov.
They can also be hand-delivered to the FIDA offices. They are located on the 2nd floor of the Department of Agriculture building which is open from 7:30 am - 4:00 pm.
