AgWest New Producer Grant

AgWest Farm Credit

Closed May 31, 2026

AgWest Farm Credit's grant for brand-new producers — a one-time $15,000 award for people who have a clear plan for their operation but lack the start-up funds to act on it. AgWest describes it as celebrating "the ingenuity and passion of new producers" and says it "was developed for those who have a vision for their operation but lack the funds to put their plans into action."

It is deliberately aimed at people who are not already AgWest borrowers: applicants must have two years or less of operational experience (or plan to start within two years), operate inside AgWest's seven-state territory, and not currently be an AgWest lending customer. Individual producers only — non-profits are directed to AgWest's separate Rural Community Grant program.

Applications are scored on a five-point scale across four components — the application, a business plan, a cash flow budget, and short essay answers — so it rewards preparation as much as need. AgWest supplies a Strategic Business Planning guide, business-plan and cash-flow templates, and three recorded financial-statement webinars that applicants are required to work through first.

The window runs annually and closes May 31.

Eligibility

  • Have an operation located within AgWest Farm Credit’s territory.

  • Must be 18 years of age and either a U.S. citizen or a foreign national lawfully admitted for permanent residency or pursuant to certain visas.

Terms

A fixed one-time cash grant, not a range: "Successful applicants will receive a one-time $15,000 grant to support their operation's growth."

No match, no cost-share, and nothing to repay — this is grant money, not credit.

How it is decided: "Applicants will be evaluated on a five-point scale covering four components: application, business plan, cash flow budget and essay." Expect real paperwork for $15,000 — a business plan, a cash flow budget, three recorded financial-statement webinars, and short essays on how the funds will advance your business plan.

Who is shut out: individual producers only ("non-profit organizations are not eligible"), you must be inside AgWest Farm Credit's territory, and you must NOT already be an AgWest lending customer. Eligibility is capped at "two years or less of operational experience" or plans to start within two years of applying.

The 2026 application window ran until May 31.
